Ingredients

  • Unsalted butter softened
  • Finely grated Parmesan cheese
  • Garlic powder
  • Italian seasoning blend
  • White sandwich bread or your preferred bread
  • Mozzarella cheese slices
  • Pepperoni slices
  • Pizza sauce for dipping

Method

    1. Prepare the Garlic Butter

In a medium bowl, combine the softened butter, Parmesan cheese, garlic powder, and Italian seasoning. Stir everything together until the mixture becomes smooth and evenly blended.
Spread this seasoned butter on one side of each slice of bread. Place the bread slices on a tray with the buttered side facing up until you’re ready to cook.

    2. Start Assembling the Sandwich

Heat a skillet over medium-low heat.
Place one slice of bread in the skillet with the buttered side facing down. Add a slice of mozzarella on top of the bread.
Layer several slices of pepperoni over the cheese, then add another slice of mozzarella. Continue with another layer of pepperoni and finish with one more slice of mozzarella for extra meltiness.
Place another slice of bread on top with the buttered side facing upward.

    3. Cook the Sandwich

Cover the skillet with a lid to help the cheese melt faster. Let the sandwich cook for about 3–5 minutes, or until the bottom slice becomes golden and crispy.
Carefully flip the sandwich using a spatula. Cover the skillet again and cook the other side until the bread turns golden brown and the cheese inside is completely melted.
Repeat the same process for the remaining sandwiches.

    4. Serve

Remove the sandwiches from the skillet and serve them immediately. Pair them with warm pizza sauce for dipping to enhance the pizza-style flavor.

Notes

Optional Topping Ideas

You can customize these sandwiches with extra pizza toppings such as:
  • Cooked Italian sausage
  • Sautéed mushrooms
  • Bell peppers
  • Onions
  • Bacon or Canadian bacon
  • Pineapple
  • Fresh basil
Always cook meats beforehand and lightly sauté vegetables so they soften before adding them to the sandwich.

Bread Alternatives

While white sandwich bread works well, you can also try:
  • Texas toast
  • Garlic bread
  • Focaccia
  • Thick artisan bread
Each option adds a slightly different texture and flavor.

Storage Tips

Store leftover sandwiches in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
For freezing, wrap each sandwich tightly and store in a freezer-safe bag for up to 3 months. Thaw overnight in the refrigerator before reheating.
To reheat, warm the sandwich in a skillet or air fryer to restore the crisp texture. Microwaving works but may soften the bread.

Helpful Tips

  • Cook sandwiches in batches so the pan doesn’t get overcrowded.
  • Place finished sandwiches on a wire rack instead of a plate to keep them crispy.
  • Feel free to experiment with different cheeses like provolone or cheddar.
  • Double the recipe easily if cooking for a larger group.
